"Furniture is meant to

be used and enjoyed.
~Natalie Morales

See this rocker...this was a rocking chair chair that was used and enjoyed...seriously!
I have had it since 1970; it was in my first apartment in Pennsylvania, and then it moved to the D.C. area for several years, and it was loaned out for awhile.  Alas, it returned, a bit bedraggled and worn, and, since it had "good bones" and good memories,  it came with me to New Jersey.  I am in the process of painting the living room, and some new furniture arrived so it was time to evaluate...face lift or curbside?  Well, memory won, and so off to the local upholstery shop...and that is today's feature.  If you are local or seasonal, Chips Custom Upholstery will "cover it all" as his card proclaims.

Today's world is all about repurposing, recycling, reworking, so I emailed that photo to Chip and the rest is history!
This week let me introduce you to the "old school" entrepreneur...and one of his assistants!  I am always on the look-out for those people who work for themselves and try to support and feature them here.

Furniture used to be made to last.  My rocker has a solid pine base...not pressed wood...and it was made in the USA!  Although we still manufacture furniture, many people only see the imported wood-chip styled pieces in the box stores.  The old maple and pine pieces can be reborn, not to mention old oak pieces.  These chairs are waiting for their face lifts.  Check the carving...

Chip is located at 2300 Route 9 South...behind this building...

Inside are works in progress...a square ottoman being turned into a round one...
His son works with him also...he picked up my rocker...they do pick up and delivery...the plus side of dealing local and personal...
Take a look at what goes on in this world...a chair with its new look waiting to be dressed...you can pick from Chip's stash, or you can bring your own...
Some completed works...although there are jobs that are commissions...
sometimes Chip creates because it just speaks to him...you know how creative spirits are...here is a masterpiece of leather...check the work on the arms...

You can see the attention to detail on this chair as well as a window valance...
Or, how about a perfect chair to brighten up a corner where you are!
A sweet accent chair...
Not to mention, bags!

This one is designed for the beach...sand be gone through the porous bottom...

Then there are bags for the special bottles...what a neat gift...don't forget the bottle!

Chip also has cleaning materials for your furniture...
And pillows...you know I love pillows!  You can also see some smaller clutch purses on the shelves also...

You can give Chip a call.  It is wonderful to know that there are still folks out there doing traditional work.  Chip even did a series of chairs for a Habitat for Humanity family; can you imagine how thrilled that family was to see their old chairs being reborn along with their new home not to mention their personal lives?
All work is carefully inspected by Bailey...
So, if it can be created, stitched, and fixed, you can rest easy like Bailey knowing that Chip and company will do a wonderful job!

"When I'm 80 and sitting in a rocking chair listening to the Rolling Stones, there is absolutely no way I'm going to feel old or forget my younger days."
